FAQs

What makes CECI Preschool different?

CECI is a nature based, design-led, play-based preschool that blends creativity, exploration, and mindfulness into every part of the day. Our philosophy celebrates curiosity, self-expression, and emotional intelligence — because we believe learning happens best when children feel seen, safe, and inspired.

What is a typical day like?

Free-choice and teacher-invited play to spark curiosity

Outdoor time in nature as a learning lab (exploration, sensory, movement)

Creative studio time (open-ended art, design provocations)

Story, group circle and small group engagements for language, social-emotional, emergent skills

SCCF and Coastal Watch, Sanibel Sea School, FISH of SANCAP, Harry Chapin Food Bank, and Sanibel Public Library, visit to the school on a regular basis.

What ages do you accept?

We currently welcome children ages 2 to 5 years old. Class groupings are designed to honor each child’s developmental stage, ensuring they’re both challenged and supported in meaningful ways. We are hoping to add an 18mo classroom once our new building is complete.

What does a typical day look like?

Each day balances structured rhythm and open exploration — morning provocations, outdoor play, creative studio time, small group learning, and moments of mindfulness. Our days flow gently to support attention spans and emotional regulation.

How do you communicate with parents?

Transparency is key. Families receive daily updates with photos, reflections, and classroom highlights through Tadpoles Application.

As a parent co-op, We hold seasonal parent gatherings and encourage open dialogue with teachers throughout the year.

What is a Parent Co-Op?

At CECI, the parent co-op isn’t optional—it’s part of our community fabric. Families partner with us through scheduled involvement (whether classroom support, nature walk oversight, logistics, or event coordination). This engagement strengthens the school-family loop, builds relationships, and supports our model of collaborative learning.

Do children spend time outdoors?

Absolutely. Our outdoor environment is a vital classroom, not a playground break. Children are immersed in nature daily, engage in wildlife observation, feel the elements, manipulate real materials, experience space and scale, and build resilience through natural exposure.
